Super Sunday for PAL Flag Football (2024)

Hundreds of spectators lined the fields at Woodward Parkway Sunday as Farmingdale’s PAL Flag Football league celebrated Super Bowl Sunday. Congratulations to the teams who went all the way and to all the boys and girls who make this league such a rousing success. Special thanks to Applebee’s, Crostini Pizza and Kozy Shack for their support.

Girls 3-5

The final game of the flag football season was a very exciting one. All the girls on the Giants 3-5th graders had a great season. Coach Shannon would like to thank all the parents and especially the girls: Amanda Weber, Erica Bauer, Samantha Hungerford, Emily Diaz, Madison Burke, Valarie Minginoe and Hannah Komorowski.

Pee Wee-3

The Steelers played soliddefense,knocking down passes, pulling flags andsnatchinga pair of interceptionsand allowed the Jets just one trip into the endzone. On offense, every Steelersplayer got their hands on the football. Matt Nocerinomade a nice catch over the middle and had his sights on the endzone, butcame up short. JaredAlemanmade another nice catch and run for a first down that kept the offense moving. Jake Dominicciand Brian Hayden caught passesthat each ran in fora touchdown. The running game was led by field length touchdown runs by Matt ValeroandAlex Hajko. Alex Ventura picked up a first down on a long runand Michael Molloymade a nice run up the middle. Sunday’s win capped an undefeatedseason for the Steelers.The coachesare very proud of the boys and how much they improved.

The final game started off great for the Vikings with Frank Gatto intercepting a pass deep in Browns territory. This led to a Cody Nelson run for his first touchdown of the season! Frank also had a nice pass to Nicky Demers for a big gain. Nicky helped add to the score through a scrambling pass to Jack Macaluso who took it to the house for the Vikings’ second TD! It was all the scoring the Vikings needed as they held the Browns to one score through strong team defense led by Demetri Smith, Jevon Evans, and Nicholas Starkie! This win completed a 3-game win streak to end this exciting season on a high note!

Pee Wee-4

The Steelers were destined to win it all on Super Sunday, after advancing from a difficult playoff bracket that included two very strong teams – the Jets and Giants. Facing the Chiefs for the title, the Steelers were primed for battle. The Steelers led the entire game, and prevailed 27-7. All four touchdowns came on the precision passing of Greg Monteleone – who hit Billy Petersen 3 times for TD’s and William Hund for the final TD. Gio Maiorano had some great runs, while Willie Wenzel made some acrobatic catches tohelp spur the offense. The Steel Curtain defense, led by Kenny Amato, Liam McIntyre, and Matt Tolkach,shut down the Chiefs at several key moments to help seal the victory.

Junior Varsity-5

The Vikings ended a super season witha Super Bowl victory. The Vikings played their best football, going 3-0 on tournament day and becoming the 5th grade champions. The defense set the tone early with their intense play. The tenacious defense was led by the pass rush of David Behavoric, Alex DeTurris and Russell Castle. Michael Thiem was outstanding on offense, combining for 6 TDs on the day. QB’s Larry Lembo and Robbie Modica made many big throws. They hooked up for multiple TD passes to Jordan McClune, Spencer Alger and Justin Barnes. The coachesare proud of the team’s greateffort and performance all season. Ultimately it ended with a Super Bowlcelebration for the Vikings.

Varsity-7

The Giants squeaked past the Chiefs 7 – 6 on their way to the Super Bowl this week. In a defensive struggle the only Giant scoring came on a Vinny Rubino to Paul DeSimone TD pass, with the deciding extra point coming on a Chris Moloney to Vinny Rubinostrike.

The Giants came up just short against a tough Bronco team in the Super Bowl.Big Blue helda slim half time leadbut couldn’thold off a second half Bronco charge and ended up on the wrong side of 25 – 19 final score. Vinny Rubino and Chris Moloney threw TD passes Mike Lynch, Matt MacKenzie and Paul DeSimone to account for the Giant scoring. BrianChristmannhad a big first down catch on the way to a 2nd half scoring drive andMike Martens and Marc Dittmeir turned in their ususal big plays on the defensive side of the ball. Coaches Paul and Kevinwant to congratulate the Giant players on a great season and thank the parentsfor their support allseason

Varsity-9

The Jets are finally Super Bowl Champs! The team capped a spectacular season with three more impressive wins Sunday night, including a 40-20 victory over the Patriots in the final game. With only seven players, every boy made significant contributions over the course of the season. Coaches Jerry and Vin want to congratulate Denis Donovan, Billy Pickett, Robert Bianco, Nathan Kirchiem, Paul Cohen, Vincent Mavaro and Brian Mazza.

Peanut-2

The Vikings were led by the impressive exploits of Rebecca Morales, who rumbled nearly the entire length of the field on a nifty run up the sideline to set up a score. Meanwhile, the other half of the Wonder Twins, Gianna Morales, zig-zagged her way across the gridiron on an impressive jaunt through the defense. Jake Amato played impressively at QB while Joseph Marino and Matthew Milianta picked up huge chunks of yardage on an assortment of dazzling pass receptions and rushing attempts.

Pee Wee-4

The shorthanded Vikings fell short in a playoff loss to the Broncos. Nonetheless, QB Stephen Pantano played valiantly in the loss by making some impressive passes and by mixing it up with some heady runs at RB. Joshua DeSousa and Giovanni Calibar each contributed an INT while playing stout defense. Luke Morales and Nicholas Marra gave their all going for the flags on D while James Palagonia scored the Vike’s lone TD on an impressive, long sideline jaunt to paydirt.
